Training 2000 is a charitable trust set up by a consortium of Lancashire businesses and is now one of the largest Group of Training Associations in England, with over 40 years' experience of delivering high quality, work-based learning and training programmes to industry and individuals on a national scale, ranging from small engineering toolrooms to large ‘blue chip’ manufacturers.   

Training 2000 boast a significant proportion of female engineering students, who are all trained on Colchester lathes.   To mark the occasion, Joanne Zalesinski, 600 UK’s Educational Sales Representative visited the female apprentices and shared with them, her experiences of working at 600 UK within the Colchester and Harrison lathe and Pratt Burnerd International workholding manufacturing facility, based in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire.    

Joanne has worked for over 10 years with 600 UK, initially with Pratt Burnerd International in Halifax and more recently, with Colchester and Harrison lathes.    

The National Women in Engineering Days is the brainchild of The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and is dedicated to raising the profile and celebrating the achievements of women in engineering.  2014 marks the 95th anniversary of WES, which was set up in 1919 by women who worked in technical roles during the First World War.    

Joanne said, “I was really impressed with the level of knowledge that the Training 2000 students have of both the engineering curriculum and their use of the engineering equipment they have at their disposal, I was particularly pleased to see that engineering is not just for the boys. My new role at 600 UK enables me to visit our many education based customers and it’s refreshing to know that the UK’s engineering talent is there for all to see.”
