Sustainability & Community Impact Stories
1. 65% Carbon footprint reduction
Through our sustainability initiatives here at Colchester Machine Tool Solutions, we have reduced our carbon footprint by a staggering 65% since 2018. Many positive initiatives have been successfully implemented focusing on energy reduction through process changes, lighting, and heating, as well as a move to more sustainable energy supply through our energy suppliers using more renewable sources and through changes to our fleet vehicles. We will continue to invest in our goal of the journey towards a greener and more responsible future.
2. The Halifax Academy Design & Manufacturing initiative
We are always looking to provide opportunities for the next generation of engineers and manufacturers. In December 2022, students from The Halifax Academy were invited to our Elland Technology Centre to design their own gothic revival-inspired trophy using industry standard CAD software. The chosen winner was Daanyaal Ali who we felt nailed the design brief! Daanyaal’s winning trophy was machined on one of our Storm Vertical Machining Centres and presented to him by our Managing Director Jonathan Wright. Congratulations Daanyaal and keep up the inspiring work!
3. Partnership with West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services (WYMS)
Colchester Machine Tool Solutions are proudly collaborating with West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services to encourage more young people and women into engineering and manufacturing. During 2023 this included working alongside WYMS and female industry leaders across the region to look at how we can create a more diverse workforce and to remove barriers for women entering the industry. On National Manufacturing Day in September 2023, alongside 17 other organisations, we took part in an interactive event at WYMS highlighting modern-day manufacturing to over 200 school pupils. We look forward to continuing these collaborations in 2024 and beyond.
